이처럼 [킹 오브 킹스]는 찰스 디킨스의 고전 소설 《예수의 생애》를 모티브로 한다. 예수의 탄생부터 부활까지, 그의 전 생애를 담은 이 책은 찰스 디킨스가 실제 그의 자녀들을 위해 손으로 직접 써 내려간 책이다. 1846년부터 1849년 사이 집필한 이 원고를 디킨스는 세상에 공개하지 말라는 유언을 남겼지만, 그로부터 85년 후인 1934년 후손에 의해 책으로 출판되었다. 이 책은 작가로서가 아니라 아버지로서, 또 깊은 신앙을 지닌 사람으로서 예수님의 삶과 가르침을 자녀들에게 전하고자 쓴 특별한 이야기다.
