Anne Carson's masterpiece, "The Autobiography of Red," which gave Anne Carson great fame, is a rewritten episode of Hercules' 10th career in Greek mythology from the standpoint of the red monster Garion, who shot and killed him with an arrow, not from the standpoint of a hero. The story of a hero and a monster in the myth shifts to the love story of Hercules, a heartless and beautiful boy, and Gerion, a lonely boy with red wings.
A special boy's growth story is described in the language of a "beautiful but heart-wrenching" poet, and he has given the author the modifier "a philosopher of a broken heart." At the time of its publication in the United States, it was a finalist for the National Critics' Association Award and was selected as the New York Times' "Book of the Year."
