벽이 품은 자연의 아름다움

상류주택의 건축과 문화, 집안 사람들의 경영철학
등을 직접 찍은 풍부한 사진 자료와 함께 다각적으로 탐구했다면,
이 책 『한옥의 벽』은 전통가옥의 벽에 드러난 조형미를 사진으로 담는 데 초점을 맞췄다.
부러질 듯이 심하게 구부러져 있거나 굵었다가 가늘어지는
나무도 어엿한 기둥이 되어 주춧돌 위에 세워졌고 그 생김
그대로 흰 벽 위에 남았다. 각양각색의 고택만큼이나
다양한 표정을 지닌 한옥의 외벽에도 자연미自然美가 숨어 있었던 것이다.
400여 고택을 직접 찾아다닌 저자는 강원 강릉 선교장船橋莊,
경기 명성황후 생가, 전남 순천 낙안읍성 고가,
경북 안동 학암고택 등 48 가옥을 엄선하여 한옥의 건물 외벽과 내벽,
방 안의 벽면 등을 85컷의 사진으로 담아냈다.
